Cool Game Sites

City of Heroes - My favorite MMO. It's been very good to me over the years.

Kotaku - Decent source of consumer gaming info. Reviews are somewhat iffy.

Gamasutra - Great source for game developers.

If Excaliber Was Made of Chocolate

I remember my "How to Draw - 50 Cartoon Characters" book that I frequently used when I was about 10 years old. And I distinctly recall using it to learn to draw Fred Flintstone. Little did I know way back when, that would someday come in handy.

"Lair of the Cocoa Dragon" was a promotional game for Postipoa.com and Cocoa Pebbles. At Blockdot, we created a story to go hand-in-hand with the story printed on the back of the Cocoa Pebbles box. It picked up right where the box left off as the players helped Fred and Barney track down the real cocoa dragon.

The game itself was broken into cycling phases. The first phase was a river race while the second was a puzzle game of moveable rocks and hazardous ravines.

The in-game experience was expanded by creating a player "Knight's Quarters" where players could show off all the special rewards they'd acquired through playing the game.

I think the toughest part for me was creating the title illustration and comic book style illustrations used to tell the story as the player moved through the levels. I wanted to be sure that the art and art style stayed true to the well established brand.
